Popular Art Artists
The popular art style became famous with the help of a few popular artists that have made this art style famous around the world. Starting in Britain, popular art works at first attracted a significant amount of criticism from the art world. It took the works of more artists until this new style was established as an art movement of its own.
Of the various British artists is Richard Hamilton, whose collage: “Just What Is It that Makes Today’s Homes So Different, So Appealing?†is one of the first popular art work in Britain. His collage made of magazine pictures of the new modern living rooms has been among the first pop art works to achieve a famous status. His pop art eclectic personality established contacts in the pop music scene and he became friends with Paul McCartney. He then went on to design the cover and the poster for the Beatles’ White Album. His famous collage poster and other popular art works are now hosted in an Art Museum in Tubingen Germany.
Out of the American popular artists, Andy Warhol is by far the most well known pop artist worldwide. His work art as a film maker, commercial illustrator, print maker and many more depicted the essence of the popular art movement that drew upon any artistic field and integrated them in the culture of the “popular massesâ€.
His work depicting Marylyn Monroe and the Campbell’s tomato juice box have showed the pop art symbols had become synonymous with the most popular artistic or commercial figures of that time. Most of his art work and archives of his life are now permanently kept at the Warhol Museum of Popular Arts, located in his hometown, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
